FAQ
What is the NDIS, and how does it work?
The NDIS, or National Disability Insurance Scheme, is a government-funded program in Australia that provides support and services to individuals with permanent and significant disabilities. It aims to empower participants to achieve their goals and improve their independence and quality of life. The NDIS operates on a person-centered approach, meaning that supports are tailored to each individual’s unique needs and goals.
Who is eligible for the NDIS in NSW?
To be eligible for the NDIS in New South Wales (NSW), a person must be under 65 years of age and have a permanent and significant disability that affects their ability to participate in everyday activities. They must also be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a protected Special Category Visa.
Can my NDIS plan be changed or reviewed?
Yes, NDIS plans can be changed or reviewed if there are changes in the participant’s circumstances or needs. This may include changes in goals, adjustments to funding allocations, or new supports required.
Can I use one NDIS Service Provider for multiple services?
Yes, you can use one NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) service provider for multiple services. The NDIS is designed to be flexible, allowing participants to choose the supports and services that best meet their needs and preferences. As an NDIS participant, you have the freedom to select one service provider to deliver multiple types of services or choose different providers for different services. Bloomfield Care Services maintains a conflict-of-interest policy to ensure transparency for participants between all our services.
Is every NDIS participant entitled to have a Support Coordinator?
No, not every NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) participant is entitled to have a support coordinator. The need for a support coordinator is determined based on the individual’s specific circumstances and support needs as outlined in their NDIS plan.
Support coordination is a funded support that assists NDIS participants in managing and implementing their NDIS plan. It is intended to provide guidance and support in navigating the NDIS system, connecting with appropriate service providers, and coordinating the various supports and services outlined in the participant’s plan.
Participants who may be eligible for support coordination typically have complex needs or require assistance in understanding and accessing the NDIS services and supports available to them. This can include individuals who have significant disabilities, are transitioning to the NDIS for the first time, or require assistance in coordinating multiple services and providers.
The decision to include support coordination in an NDIS plan is made based on the participant’s goals, their level of independence, the complexity of their support needs, and their ability to manage their plan independently.
If a participant’s plan includes support coordination, they have the option to choose a support coordinator who is registered with the NDIS. The support coordinator will work collaboratively with the participant to implement their plan, find suitable service providers, and ensure the participant’s goals are being met.
It’s important to note that while not every NDIS participant is entitled to support coordination, there are other types of funded supports available based on an individual’s needs and goals. The NDIS plan is tailored to the participant’s unique circumstances, ensuring they receive the appropriate supports and services to achieve their desired outcomes.
Can NDIS participants choose their own Supported Independant Living (SIL) group home?
Yes, NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) participants have the right to choose their own Supported Independent Living (SIL) group home. The NDIS is designed to provide individuals with choice and control over the supports and services they receive, including their living arrangements.
